Embracing Islaam and (then) Following a Deviant Sect Q. Noble Shaykh, there are a lot of Christians who accept Islaam and then end up following a methodology other than the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa'ah, such as the Sufeeyah and Shee'ah. Are they considered to be disbelievers due to following a methodology other than that of Ahlus Sunnah and the Salafus Saalih, or do we judge them according to the sect they follow? Answer: If a non-Muslim embraces Islaam, affiliates himself to it and then joins an innovated sect, he then takes the ruling of that sect. If he involves himself in innovations that are within themselves a form of disbelief, he is considered to be a disbeliever and his conversion from Christianity to this innovation would not have benefited him. If these innovations do not lead to disbelief then he is not considered to be a disbeliever. However Ahlus Sunnah should search for and properly receive those who embrace Islaam on their own. Because it is extremely likely that they accepted Islaam due to their own desire, and then an innovator approaches them and harms them by saying: "This innovation is a part of Islaam" and so they practice it.
