Permissible to congratulate on New year?

The first question of Fatwa no. 20795

Q 1: Is it permissible to congratulate non-Muslims on the occasion of the new Gregorian year, thenew Hijri (lunar) year, and the Mawlid (the Prophet’s birthday)?

A: It is not permissible to offer congratulations on such occasions; for it is not Mashru‘ (Islamically permissible) to celebrate them.

Will Playing a Recording of Surah Al Bakara Expel Satan from the House?

Tuesday, 18 September 2007 Question: Oh Sheik there is a hadith from the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him, that mentions if a person reads Sura Al Bakara the shaitan will not enter his house; but if Sura Al Bakara is recorded on a tape (and played in the house) does it have the same effect? Answer: No, no… a recording on a tape is nothing, it will not benefit because this is not considered reading the Koran, it is called listening to the voice of a previously recorded Reciter. And in a similar fashion, if we recorded the athan of the Mu'athin and then when the time for the athan came we put the recording in front of the microphone and left it to play the athan would this suffice? And if we recorded an exciting sermon of the Khateeb and then when Jumah came we put the tape recorder with the tape in it in front of the microphone and the recording said, 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessing' then the mu'athin called the athan and then the sermon began to play, would this suffice? It would not suffice… why? Because this is previously recorded, just like if you would have written it on paper. If you write it on paper or put a Mushaf in the house does it take the place of reading? No, it does not replace it. Regarding the one who has both Male and Female organs

Question: Is the one who has both male and female (sexual) organs to be treated as a female, bearing in mind his affair has not yet become clear (as to whether he is male or female)? And are all the rulings which are specific to a woman applicable to him (also)?

Response: Regarding such a person, some explanation is required.

Before attaining puberty there is (some) doubt; Is he (to be considered) a male or female because he has two (sexual) organs, a female organ and a male organ. However, in most cases after attaining puberty his masculinity or femininity becomes apparent. So, if there appears (upon him) that which indicates he is a woman, such as the appearance of both his breasts, or there appears upon him that which distinguishes him from the men such as menses, or urinating from the female organ, then (in this case) he is to be regarded as a woman and (as such) his male organ is to be surgically removed with care.

And if there appears (upon him) that which indicates he is a man, such as the growing of the beard and urinating from the male organ and other than that which the doctors are aware of, then he is to be regarded as a man.

And before (all this) he is to remain (in a state of ambiguity) until his matter becomes apparent; So he is not to be married off until it is apparent he is (clearly) a man or a woman. And this occurs after attaining puberty as the scholars have stated.
