Question:

Oh Sheik there is a hadith from the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him, that mentions if a person reads Sura Al Bakara the shaitan will not enter his house; but if Sura Al Bakara is recorded on a tape (and played in the house) does it have the same effect?

Answer:

No, no… a recording on a tape is nothing, it will not benefit because this is not considered reading the Koran, it is called listening to the voice of a previously recorded Reciter.

And in a similar fashion, if we recorded the athan of the Mu'athin and then when the time for the athan came we put the recording in front of the microphone and left it to play the athan would this suffice? And if we recorded an exciting sermon of the Khateeb and then when Jumah came we put the tape recorder with the tape in it in front of the microphone and the recording said, 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessing' then the mu'athin called the athan and then the sermon began to play, would this suffice? It would not suffice… why? Because this is previously recorded, just like if you would have written it on paper. If you write it on paper or put a Mushaf in the house does it take the place of reading? No, it does not replace it.

"Know you not that it is Allâh to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth? And besides Allâh you have neither any Walî (protector or guardian) nor any helper. Or do you want to ask your Messenger (Muhammad ) as Mûsâ (Moses) was asked before (i.e. show us openly our Lord)? And he who changes Faith for disbelief, verily, he has gone astray from the Right Way." 2: 107-108.

Whoever abandons something for the sake of Allaah, He will replace it for him with something better than it"

The teacher of our teachers,[1] the great scholar and historian, Shaikh Muhammad Raaghib At-Tabbaakh, rahimahullaah, mentioned the following story in his book "I'laam an-Nubalaa bi-Taareekh Halab ash-Shuhabaa" (7/231):

"Shaikh Ibraaheem Al-Hilaalee Al-Halabee – a pious and noble scholar – traveled to Al-Azhar University in search of knowledge. While seeking knowledge, he became very poor and used to rely on charity. One time, several days passed by and he did not find anything to eat, so he became extremely hungry.

So he came out of his room in Al-Azhar to ask for some scraps of food. He found an open door from which a pleasant smell of food was coming out of. So he entered the door and found himself in a kitchen with no one around. There he found some tempting food, so he grabbed a spoon and dipped it in, but when he lifted it to his mouth, he held himself back from eating it, since he realized that he had not been given permission to eat from it. So he left it and returned to his room in the dormitory of Al-Azhar, still hungry and starving.

But no less than an hour passed by, when one of his teachers, accompanied by another man, came into his room. And his teacher said to him: 'This noble man came to me seeking a righteous student of knowledge to choose for marrying his daughter, and I have chosen you for him. So rise and come with us to his home where we can complete the marriage contract between you and his daughter and you can become part of his household.' So Shaikh Ibraaheem struggled to get to his feet, obeying the command of his teacher and went with them. And behold they took him to the very same house he had been to, and which he had entered and dipped the spoon into the food!

So when he sat down, the girl's father married her to him and the food was brought out. It was the same food he had put the spoon into before and which he abandoned. But now he ate from it and said to himself: 'I withheld from eating it when I had no permission, but now Allaah has given me this food with permission.'

Afterward, this righteous wife went back with him to Halab, after he had finished his studies. And she bore righteous children for him."

So this is the fruit of patience and this is the result of having taqwaa, as Allaah says: "And whoever has Taqwaa of Allaah, He will make a way out for him (from hardship), and He will provide for Him from places He never imagined." [Surah At-Talaaq: 2-3]

But as for those who are hasty – those who do not distinguish between the truth and falsehood, seeking after the transitory vanities of this worldly life – they will never experience anything but grief and sorrow in their hearts, for they will never attain the worldly life nor will they ever achieve Religion.

This is because they forget – or perhaps neglect – the saying of Allaah: "Is not Allaah sufficient for His servant?" [Surah Az-Zumar: 36]

As for those who are patient and firm and who have Taqwaa, they will gain ascendancy in this life and glory and honor with their Lord on the Day of Judgement. And Allaah says: "So give the glad tidings to the patient ones." [Surah Al-Baqarah: 155] And He says: "Verily, the patient ones will be given their reward without any reckoning." [Surah Az-Zumar: 10]

The Qur'an is a Cure

AsSalam Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu

The Qur'an is a Cure

Compiled and translated by
Abdulilah Lahmami

Allaah said that his Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said,

"And He feeds me and quenches my thirst And when I fall sick then He (Allaah) cures me." [Soorah Shu'araa: 80]

Some scholars of Tafseer explain that there is a relation between what we eat and drink and falling sick since most people fall ill because of their diet. This could be a reason why Allaah mentioned that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) recognized that Allaah is the One who provides sustenance for us but that sickness is due to our own self and this is why sickness is mentioned after food and drink in this Verse.

"And We sent down of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe." [Soorah Israa: 82]

A healing to 'those who believe" showing the importance of rectifying our belief and actions such that we are true believers if we want the Qur'an to benefit us.

Ayub (peace be upon him) called upon his Lord, "And remember Ayub when he cried to his Lord: Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy." [Soorah al-Anbiyaa: 83] When he was inflicted with harm.

And the reply came from his lord:

"We answered him and removed the distress that was on him" [Soorah al-Anbiyaa: 84]

"O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (Qur'an) enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil, and a healing for that which is in your breasts, a guidance and a mercy for the believers." [Soorah Yunus: 57]

This shows us that the Qur'an has four benefits:
  1. A good advice
  2. Cure for our hearts from all diseases
  3. Guidance
  4. Mercy for mankind
"Say: it (the Qur'an) is a healing for those who believe, a guide and healing" [Soorah Fusilaat: 44]

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

There is no-one who is afflicted by distress and grief, and says:

Allaahumma inni abduka ibn abdika ibn amatika naasiyati bi yadika, maada fi hukmika, adlun fiy qadaaika. Asaluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw istatharta bihi fi ilm il-ghayb indaka an tajal al-Quraana rabee qalbi wa noor sadri wa jalaa huzni wa dhihaab hammi

(O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your male and female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, that You make the Quraan the harvest of my heart and the light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety),

but Allaah will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with joy.

He was asked: O Messenger of Allaah, should we learn this? He said: Of course; everyone who hears it should learn it.

"And if Allaah tests you with affliction, there is none who can remove it but He" [Soorah Yunus: 107]
"And He will give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people." [Soorah Tawbah: 14]

When you sleep read ayat al-Kursi

Abu Hurairah reported  that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "When you are about to sleep recite Ayatul Kursi till the end of the Verse for there will remain for you a protection from Allaah and no devil will draw to you until morning." [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree]

The last two Verses of Soorah al-Baqara

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said, whoever recites the last two Verses of Soorah al-Baqara at night, those two Verses shall be sufficient for him." [Saheeh al-Bukhaarree and Saheeh Muslim]

The last three chapter of the Qur'an

When retiring to his bed every night, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would hold his palms together, blow into them, recite the last three chapters of the Qur'an and then wipe his entire body as much as possible with his hands, beginning with the head and face and then all parts of the body, he would do this three times." [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Soorah al-Falaq and Soorah Naas

Aisha said "when someone fell ill from the Prophet's family he did 'nafath' on them (to blow three times over them reciting the two chapters of seeking refuge -Soorah al-Falaq and Soorah Naas). When he himself fell ill, the illness which lead to his death I would (similarly) do 'nafath' on him and would wipe him with his own hands for it was more blessed that my hands. [Saheeh Muslim]

We turn to Allaah in distress

Allaah said regarding Dhun Nun when called upon Allaah to remove his distress and Allaah replied,
"We answered his call and delivered him from the distress. And thus We do deliver the believers." [Soorah anbiyaa: 87,88]

We turn to Allaah when people try to harm us

"And you will remember what I am telling you, and I leave my affair with Allaah, verily Allaah is ever watchful over His slaves." [Soorah Ghaafir: 44]

And after it Allaah said:

"So Allaah saved him from the evils that they plotted (against him), while an evil torment encompassed Fir'aun's people." [Soorah Ghaafir: 45]

Soorah Faatihah is a cure

It is also a cure when read over the sick. They are cured by the permission of Allaah because the Prophet Sallalhu Alaihi wa sallam said to Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) after he read it over a person who had been bitten by a scorpion and was cured, How did you come to know that it is a cure?

There is a new book which was a lecture by sheikh Rabee' on Ruqya.

Mashaallaah the sheikh clearly shows that it is not correct for someone to put themselves forward in taking money to perform Ruqya on others if however they are given something then that is in line with the narration of Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri radiallaahu 'anhu as mentioned earlier. Nowadays he says people are making it into a business and competing with each other to see who can make the most money by charging others for their ruqya. Sheikh Rabee' explained that the people Abu Sa'eed did ruqya for gave them sheep in return for being cured but nowadays these people who put themselves forward ask for money beforehand whether the person is cured or not! At the end of the book the sheikh discusses the importance of being well-mannered and having brotherhood. A nice read mashaallaah.

The Ease of Learning Quran: From Dtssbc

As’Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

The Ease of Learning the Qur'an

Shaykh 'Abdur Rahman Sa'dee , may Allah have mercy on him, stated the verse: "We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember [i.e. or receive admonition?] Surah Qamar verse 17.

Shaykh As-Sa'dee, may Allah have mercy on him, stated in his explanation of the verse:

أي: ولقد يسرنا وسهلنا هذا القرآن الكريم، ألفاظه للحفظ والأداء، ومعانيه للفهم والعلم، لأنه أحسن الكلام لفظا، وأصدقه معنى، وأبينه تفسيرا، فكل من أقبل عليه يسر الله عليه مطلوبه غاية التيسير، وسهله عليه،

"Meaning, indeed we have made the Noble Qur'an easy and facilitated. Its [i.e. Qur'an] wording is for memorization and application, its meanings for comprehension and religious knowledge--Because it, the Qur'an, is the most eloquent in speech, most truthful in its meaning, and most clear in its explanation. So every person who is inclined towards it, Allah will make easy for him his request to the utmost of ease; Allah making the Qur'an facilitated for him.

the "Dhikr" encompasses all that which those who strive mentions of Halal and Haram, the rulings concerning recompense, admonition, reminders, beliefs that are benefited by, as well as truthful reports. For this reason, the knowledge of the Qur'an was and still is perserved and expounded on [i.e. explained]. Its sciences are the most facilitated, the most Lofty without any restriction. The Qur'an is the beneficial knowledge in which when the servant seeks it--he is assisted towards it.

Some of Salaf stated regarding this verse:

"Is there any individual who will seek this [i.e. Qur'an], So he will be aided towards it?"

For this reason Allah calls to His servants towards being inclined to it, remembering it. Allah mentions in His statement:

"Then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition?)
